Biography

Michael Janssen is a first year Graduate Teaching Assistant with the Hawkeye Marching Band. Michael holds a B.B.A in Management from the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa, and a minor in Music. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2015. Michael is in his second year as a graduate student in the Sport and Recreation Management program at Iowa and hopes to work for the Iowa Athletic Department following his graduation.

Michael has been involved in music his whole life, performing in numerous concert ensembles throughout his undergraduate career at Iowa. He is also an alumnus of the Iowa’s chapter of the national men’s music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Michael held the position of president of that chapter for two years.

Michael marched in the Hawkeye Marching Band from 2015-2018 as a mellophone player and was Section Leader for the Mellophone Section in 2017 and 2018. Michael was selected as Drum Major for the Hawkeye Marching Band in 2019 and held the position for the 2019 and 2020 marching band seasons. In July 2019, Michael was awarded the commission of Drum Major First Class- Mace Style at the Smith Walbridge Drum Major Clinic.
